How we are doing now

The Grade 12 Mathematics Test is trending very slightly upward as we continue to move towards the target.

Data Source

The Grade 12 Mathematics Test Index provides a single measure of the accumulation of numeracy skills throughout the K-12 education system as indicated by the provincial Grade 12 mathematics summative tests. The index aggregates data from the Grade 12 Essential Mathematics, Grade 12 Applied Mathematics, and Grade 12 Pre-Calculus provincial tests across three school programs (English, Français, and French Immersion) in public and funded independent schools. The index is weighted by the number of students being assessed, so assessments being completed by more students are weighted more than assessments being completed by fewer students.

How we are doing over time

2017/18: 59.7 percent
2018/19: 61.4 percent

Why This Matters

Numeracy skills are essential foundations towards better educational outcomes, economic well-being, and social inclusion. Monitoring this indicator is essential to ensure that government’s educational programs for children are working effectively in improving their foundational skills.

Next steps

Established in January 2019, the independent K-12 Education Commission will provide recommendations to improve the K-12 education system in Manitoba. The commission’s report is expected to be released publicly in March 2020.
